Introduction
February 3, 2007 I found myself in a place I never would have guessed, homeless in Santa Monica, the very place I was born and raised. I was homeless for 29 longs months, 14 of these months battling HIV, poor access to medical care, discrimination and harsh disrespect.
However in the midst of such great adversity I created Project KengiKat ~my blog, vlog and flickr pages, Do Something Saturday ~homeless outreach, Unpluggin' HIV ~HIV and AIDS outreach. I refused to believe that simply because I was homeless, poor and sick, that I was no longer significant, no longer able to inspire people, encourage people or create something that could really make a huge difference in the lives of people in need.
It's been over three years since I created this organization and together with my dear friends and some pretty amazing people from all works of life this formerly homeless man, has been able to reach out and offer support, dignity, respect and friendship to homeless people and people living with HIV and AIDS, not just here in Los Angeles, but through my blog and youtube channel, I've been able to inspire people throughout the world.
Through the adversity in my life, I've been able to create a pretty amazing organization that helps people by asking others to care without conditions, help without judgement and love humanity before community and what has taken place is "connection without bureaucracy"
My organization represents my faith in God, my refusal to give up on myself, my refusal to give up of people who are homeless or battling HIV and AIDS, my refusal to believe that simply because I was homeless, I no longer mattered and my life was no longer worth living. My organization represents what is possible as long you continue to believe in yourself and never give up, even in the midst of a great challenge.
